Making a pole position graphic with a driver cutout
How the F1 Tools pole position generator works: driver poses, cutout framing, editable poster copy, team palettes and the 2160 × 2700 PNG export.
A pole position graphic is one large driver image, a few lines of copy and a team-coloured background. The Pole position generator handles the layout, so you spend your time on the driver framing and the wording.
Start with the driver
The Driver tab has a Built-in driver select that lists the 2026 drivers and the F2 drivers, marked with an F2 · prefix. Choosing a driver sets the poster name, the team colours and the default framing.
Built-in drivers have Front, Left and Right poses. F2 drivers get a single Portrait option. Changing the pose clears any custom cutout.
Upload a cutout
Use Upload custom cutout, or drop or paste an image onto the preview. The pose control then gets a Custom option, and the framing resets to centred at 100%. The built-in framing is offset and larger, so a custom image always starts from the neutral position.
Replacing the image keeps the team palette you already picked. Only the artwork changes.
Frame the driver
You can move the driver in three ways:
- Drag the artwork on the preview. It snaps to the centre when you get close, and guide lines show when it does.
- Use the Scale slider, which runs from 60% to 225% in steps of 10.
- Use the position pad to nudge or centre the artwork. Arrow keys also nudge the focused artwork.
A Reset framing button appears once the position or scale differs from the default, so you can return to the starting frame without reloading.
Edit the poster copy
Tap the name, round, event or headline on the preview to jump to that field. The limits are:
- Driver name, up to 28 characters. The first word sits on the top line and the rest follow below it.
- Round, up to 12 characters
- Event, up to 18 characters
- Headline, up to 8 characters. It defaults to
POLE.
All four fields are forced to uppercase. Use a placeholder such as ROUND 00 and EXAMPLE GP while you set up the layout.
Set the team palette
The Style tab starts with a Team palette. Pick a team and the background, pattern and graphic ink fill from that team. The Colours section then exposes Background, Pattern and Graphic ink separately. A Reset to team button appears when any of them differ from the preset.
The background colour is also used as the export background, so a custom background changes the edges of the PNG as well as the poster.
Export
Export produces a 2160 × 2700 PNG. The poster is designed at 1080 × 1350 and rendered at twice that size. The filename uses the driver name, for example f1-pole-example-driver.png.
What you still edit manually
The tool does not know which driver is on pole. You choose the driver, pose or cutout, the round and event, and the headline. The generator does not check spelling, so proofread the name and event before exporting.
Framing is also manual. Check the framing against the headline at export size, since the copy sits over the lower part of the poster. Finally, tweak the colours if the team preset does not match the look you want.
